इति एवम् उक्ता जटिला चीर कृष्ण अजिन अंबरा ।
अनुज्ञाता तु रामेण हुत्वा आत्मानम् हुत अशने ॥ ॥३-७४-३२॥
Iti evam uktā jaṭilā cīra kṛṣṇa ajina ambarā |
Anujñātā tu Rāmeṇa hutvā ātmānam huta aśane ॥3-74-32॥
Translation
Thus addressed and permitted by Rama, she (Shabari), wearing matted locks, bark garments, and black antelope skin, offered herself as an oblation into the fire.

श्री राम की आज्ञा पाकर, जटाधारी और वल्कल तथा कृष्णमृगचर्म धारण करने वाली शबरी ने स्वयं को अग्नि (हुताशन) में आहुति रूप में समर्पित कर दिया।
English Commentary
Shabari performs the final rite of her life. Wearing the insignias of an ascetic (matted hair, antelope skin), she casts herself into the sacred fire. The text uses the phrase Hutva atmanam (sacrificed herself), framing her death as a Yajna (sacrifice). In the presence of Rama, she offers her body back to the elements. This acts as a transformative ritual. It is important to note the context of ancient ascetic practices where entering fire was a method for high-souled beings to shed the mortal coil upon completion of their life's purpose, distinct from despair-driven acts.

यह श्लोक शबरी के देह-त्याग की विधि का वर्णन करता है। उन्होंने 'आत्म-दाह' या योगाग्नि द्वारा शरीर छोड़ा। यहाँ 'हुत्वा आत्मानम्' का अर्थ है स्वयं को हवन सामग्री की तरह अग्नि में होम कर देना। यह कोई साधारण आत्महत्या नहीं, बल्कि एक वैदिक या योगिक प्रक्रिया है। उनके वेश-भूषा (जटा, मृगचर्म) का वर्णन यह याद दिलाता है कि अंत समय तक उन्होंने एक तपस्वी का धर्म निभाया। राम के सामने, राम की आज्ञा से, अग्नि में प्रवेश करना—यह अग्नि परीक्षा नहीं, बल्कि अग्नि द्वारा शुद्धिकरण और आरोहण है।
