Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तौ दृष्ट्वा तु तदा सिद्धा समुत्थाय कृतांजलिः ।
पादौ जग्राह रामस्य लक्ष्मणस्य च धीमतः ॥३-७४-६॥
tau dṛṣṭvā tu tadā siddhā samutthāya kṛtāñjaliḥ |
pādau jagrāha rāmasya lakṣmaṇasya ca dhīmataḥ ॥3-74-6॥
Translation
Seeing them, that Siddha (perfected ascetic woman) immediately stood up with folded hands and clasped the feet of Rama and the wise Lakshmana.

उन्हें देखकर, उस सिद्धा (तपस्विनी शबरी) ने तुरंत उठकर हाथ जोड़ लिए और राम तथा बुद्धिमान लक्ष्मण के चरण स्पर्श किये (पैर पकड़े)।
English Commentary
Valmiki elevates Shabari's status instantly by referring to her as Siddha (one who has attained perfection/success in penance). This single word shatters any notion of her being a mere tribal woman; she is a spiritual giant. Her reaction—rising, folding hands, and touching feet—reflects deep Vedic culture and reverence for the divine guest (atithi). The act of clasping their feet (padau jagraha) shows her total surrender and the fulfillment of her life's long wait. It is a touching moment of a devotee finally meeting the object of her devotion.
