अरिष्टम् गच्छ पन्थानम् राम सौमित्रिणा सह ।
सीतया च अनया सार्धम् छाय एव अनुवृत्तया ॥३-८-११॥
ariṣṭam gaccha panthānam rāma saumitriṇā saha । sītayā ca anayā sārdham chāya eva anuvṛttayā ॥3-8-11॥
Translation
O Rama! Go safely on your path along with Saumitri (Lakshmana) and with this Sita, who follows you like a shadow.

हे राम! तुम सुमित्रानंदन (लक्ष्मण) और छाया की भांति अनुसरण करने वाली इस सीता के साथ सुरक्षित मार्ग पर जाओ।
English Commentary
In this verse, Sage Sutikshna pronounces his benediction for a safe journey (ariṣṭam gaccha), acknowledging the perils of the Dandaka forest. The description of Sita as chāya eva anuvṛttayā (following like a shadow) is profoundly significant. It captures the essence of her devotion—inseparable and faithful regardless of the conditions. Just as a shadow does not exist independently of the object, the poet implies Sita's existence is entirely intertwined with Rama's. This metaphor is a classic literary device in the Ramayana to depict the ideal of marital fidelity and companionship. The sage creates a protective shield of words around the trio. By explicitly mentioning Lakshmana and Sita, he blesses the entire unit, recognizing that Rama's strength and purpose are supported by his brother's valor and his wife's virtue.

सुतीक्ष्ण मुनि विदाई देते समय 'अरिष्टम्' (कल्याणकारी/सुरक्षित) यात्रा का आशीर्वाद दे रहे हैं। दंडकारण्य राक्षसों से भरा है, इसलिए सुरक्षा का आशीर्वाद अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। यहाँ सीता के लिए 'छाय एव अनुवृत्तया' (छाया की तरह अनुसरण करने वाली) विशेषण का प्रयोग किया गया है, जो पतिव्रता धर्म और सीता के अटूट समर्पण का परिचायक है। छाया कभी शरीर का साथ नहीं छोड़ती, चाहे धूप हो या अंधकार; उसी प्रकार सीता सुख और दुख दोनों में राम के साथ हैं। मुनि का यह कथन सीता के त्याग को मान्यता (Acknowledgement) देता है। यह श्लोक भारतीय संस्कृति में पत्नी को 'सहधर्मिणी' के रूप में देखने के दृष्टिकोण को पुष्ट करता है, जो आध्यात्मिक और भौतिक यात्राओं में बराबर की भागीदार है। मुनि का स्वर यहाँ एक अभिभावक जैसा है जो बच्चों को कठिन रास्ते पर भेजने से पहले आश्वस्त कर रहा है।
