Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
गम्यताम् वत्स सौमित्रे भवान् अपि च गच्छतु ।
आगन्तव्यम् च ते दृष्ट्वा पुनः एव आश्रमम् प्रति ॥३-८-१६॥
gamyatām vatsa saumitre bhavān api ca gacchatu । āgantavyam ca te dṛṣṭvā punaḥ eva āśramam prati ॥3-8-16॥
Translation
Go, child Saumitri (Lakshmana)! You too may go (Rama). (But) after seeing those hermitages, you must come back again to this ashram.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वत्स सौमित्र (लक्ष्मण)! जाओ। (और हे राम!) आप भी जाएं। (परंतु) उन आश्रमों को देखकर आप दोनों को पुनः इसी आश्रम में लौटना चाहिए।
English Commentary
This verse contains the final leave-taking permission and a crucial request. Addressing Lakshmana affectionately as 'Vatsa' (child/dear one) and then Rama, the sage grants them leave to depart. However, he explicitly adds a condition or strong request: āgantavyam ca te... punaḥ (you must come back again). This indicates the deep bond the sage has formed with them; he is not satisfied with just one visit. He wants them to tour the other hermitages of Dandakaranya and then return to him. This request sets up a future plot point, as Rama does honor this invitation later in his journey. It reveals the sage's spiritual attachment to Rama—while he encourages them to visit other sages, he desires their company once more. It transforms a simple goodbye into a "see you again."

यह विदाई का अंतिम और महत्वपूर्ण निर्देश है। सुतीक्ष्ण पहले लक्ष्मण को 'वत्स' (बेटा) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, फिर राम को। यहाँ सबसे महत्वपूर्ण भाग है—'पुनः एव आश्रमम् प्रति आगन्तव्यम्' (पुनः आश्रम लौटना होगा)। मुनि जानते हैं कि राम का दर्शन दुर्लभ है, इसलिए वे उन्हें दोबारा देखना चाहते हैं। यह संतों का स्वभाव है कि वे भगवान के सानिध्य को छोड़ना नहीं चाहते। दूसरी ओर, यह राम के वनवास के अगले चरण के लिए एक निमंत्रण भी है। राम वास्तव में बाद में (अगस्त्य मुनि के दर्शन से पहले या बाद में) सुतीक्ष्ण के पास लौटते हैं, जिससे मुनि की यह इच्छा और आदेश पूर्ण होता है। यह श्लोक भारतीय परंपरा में 'पुनरागमनलाभाय' (फिर से आने के लिए विदाई) की भावना को दर्शाता है।
