Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तः तथा इति उक्त्वा काकुत्स्थः सह लक्ष्मणः ।
प्रदक्षिणम् मुनिम् कृत्वा प्रस्थातुम् उपचक्रमे ॥३-८-१७॥
evam uktaḥ tathā iti uktvā kākutsthaḥ saha lakṣmaṇaḥ । pradakṣiṇam munim kṛtvā prasthātum upacakrame ॥3-8-17॥
Translation
Thus spoken to, saying "So be it," Kakutstha (Rama) along with Lakshmana performed circumambulation (Pradakshina) of the sage and began to depart.

ऐसा कहे जाने पर, "तथास्तु" (वैसा ही होगा) कहकर, लक्ष्मण सहित काकुत्स्थ (राम) ने मुनि की परिक्रमा की और प्रस्थान करना आरंभ किया।
English Commentary
The closing verse of this interaction shows Rama's compliance and reverence. By replying "tathā" (so be it/yes), Rama accepts the sage's invitation to return, showing his respect for the sage's wish. The use of the lineage title 'Kakutstha' reinforces Rama's noble nature; a scion of such a line honors his word. The act of pradakṣiṇam (circumambulation) before leaving is a profound gesture in Vedic culture, symbolizing that the sage is a central figure of reverence and that the departure is taken with his blessings surrounding them. Accompanied by Lakshmana, Rama begins the journey (prasthātum upacakrame). This marks the transition from the static ashram life back to the dynamic path of the exile, armed with blessings and a clear direction to explore the rest of Dandakaranya.

इस सर्ग का यह अंतिम श्लोक (या प्रसंग का उपसंहार) है। राम 'तथा इति' (वैसा ही हो/ठीक है) कहकर मुनि की पुनः लौटने की आज्ञा को स्वीकार करते हैं। 'काकुत्स्थ' (ककुत्स्थ कुल में उत्पन्न) विशेषण राम की कुलीनता और वचनबद्धता को याद दिलाता है—वे जो कहते हैं, वह करते हैं। प्रस्थान से पूर्व 'प्रदक्षिणम्' (परिक्रमा) करना परम सम्मान का सूचक है। परिक्रमा का अर्थ है कि शिष्य के लिए गुरु ही केंद्र बिंदु है। लक्ष्मण का साथ होना (सह लक्ष्मणः) यह दिखाता है कि वे हर क्रिया में राम का अनुसरण कर रहे थे। इसके बाद 'प्रस्थातुम् उपचक्रमे' (जाना शुरू किया) से नई यात्रा का आरंभ होता है। यहाँ से वे अन्य ऋषियों के आश्रमों की ओर बढ़ते हैं। यह श्लोक शिष्टाचार, आज्ञापालन और यात्रा के मांगलिक आरंभ का सुंदर समन्वय है।
