आबध्य च शुभे तूणी चापे च आदाय सस्वने ।
निष्क्रान्तौ आश्रमात् गन्तुम् उभौ तौ राम लक्ष्मणौ ॥३-८-१९॥
ābadhya ca śubhe tūṇī cāpe ca ādāya sasvane । niṣkrāntau āśramāt gantum ubhau tau rāma lakṣmaṇau ॥3-8-19॥
Translation
Having strapped on the beautiful quivers and taken up the resounding bows, both Rama and Lakshmana exited the hermitage to depart.

वे दोनों, राम और लक्ष्मण, उन सुंदर तरकशों को बांधकर और टंकार ध्वनि करने वाले धनुषों को लेकर प्रस्थान करने के लिए आश्रम से बाहर निकले।
English Commentary
The imagery here serves to re-establish Rama and Lakshmana as warriors. They strap on their quivers and take up their bows, described as sasvane (making sound/resounding), implying the potential power latent in the weapons. The act of exiting (niṣkrāntau) the ashram marks a physical and atmospheric shift. Within the ashram, they were humble disciples bowing to a sage; outside the boundary, they are armed protectors entering a hostile territory. The verse captures the duality of their existence in the forest—ascetics by vow, but warriors by necessity. The synchronization of the two brothers ('both Rama and Lakshmana') reinforces their unity as they step out to face the challenges of Dandakaranya together.

यहाँ राम और लक्ष्मण का युद्ध-सज्जा (Battle-readiness) में चित्रण है। 'सस्वने' शब्द धनुष के लिए प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है 'शब्द करने वाले' या जिसकी प्रत्यंचा की टंकार गूंजती हो। यह शब्द शांत आश्रम और युद्धक धनुष के बीच के विरोधाभास को दिखाता है। दोनों भाई अब ऋषियों की आज्ञा लेकर अपनी यात्रा के लिए तैयार हैं। 'निष्क्रान्तौ' (बाहर निकले) शब्द केवल आश्रम की सीमा पार करने का ही नहीं, बल्कि एक सुरक्षित वातावरण से अनिश्चितता की ओर बढ़ने का भी सूचक है। राम और लक्ष्मण की शारीरिक भाषा (Body language) यहाँ आत्मविश्वास से भरी है, जो शस्त्र धारण करने से आती है। यह श्लोक पाठक को याद दिलाता है कि वे वनवासी वेष में भी महापराक्रमी योद्धा हैं।
