अक्षया तु भवेत् प्रीतिः श्वश्रू श्वशुरयोः मम ।
यदि राज्यम् हि संन्यस्य भवेत् त्वम् निरतो मुनिः ॥३-९-२९॥
akṣayā tu bhavet prītiḥ śvaśrū śvaśurayoḥ mama |
yadi rājyam hi saṃnyasya bhavet tvam nirato muniḥ ॥3-9-29॥
Translation
If, having completely renounced the kingdom (and royal power), you become dedicated like a sage, my mother-in-law and father-in-law will feel imperishable joy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि आप राज्य (की सत्ता और क्षत्रिय अभिमान) का पूर्णतः त्याग करके एक मुनि की भाँति (धर्म में) निरत हो जाएं, तो मेरे सास और ससुर को अक्षय प्रसन्नता होगी।
English Commentary
This verse blends emotion with Dharma. Although King Dasharatha has passed, Sita refers to her in-laws ('shvashurayoh'), implying that their spirits or the lineage's honor would be upheld by Rama's strict adherence to the ascetic vow. 'Rajyam sannyasya' here implies more than just leaving the throne; it suggests renouncing the 'royal mindset' of wielding power and punishment. Sita believes Rama's true glory lies in his sacrifice and character, not in his martial strength. By invoking the elders, she tries to persuade Rama that choosing the path of a Muni over a Warrior in the forest is the decision that truly honors his ancestors.

यह श्लोक भावुकता और धर्म का मिश्रण है। यद्यपि महाराज दशरथ अब जीवित नहीं हैं, सीता जी 'श्वशुरयोः' (सास-ससुर) का उल्लेख करती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि उनकी आत्माएं या कुल की मर्यादा यह देखकर प्रसन्न होगी कि श्रीराम ने वनवास के नियमों का पालन कितनी निष्ठा से किया। 'राज्यम् संन्यस्य' का अर्थ यहाँ केवल सिंहासन छोड़ना नहीं है, बल्कि राजा जैसी मानसिकता (दंड देने का अधिकार) को भी छोड़ना है। सीता जी का मानना है कि श्रीराम का असली गौरव उनके चरित्र और त्याग में है, न कि उनके बाहुबल में। वे पारिवारिक मान-प्रतिष्ठा का वास्ता देकर श्रीराम को अहिंसा के मार्ग पर लाना चाहती हैं।
