विदर्शिता यदा देवी कुब्जया पापया भृशम् ।
तदा शेते स्म सा भूमौ दिग्धविद्धेव किन्नरी ॥२-१०-१॥
Vidarśitā yadā devī kubjayā pāpayā bhṛśam |
Tadā śete sma sā bhūmau digdhaviddheva kinnarī ॥2-10-1॥
Translation
When the Queen was thus explicitly shown the (wrong) path by the sinful hunchback, she lay on the ground like a Kinnari pierced by a poisoned arrow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब उस पापिनी कुबड़ी (मंथरा) ने देवी (कैकेयी) को (विपरीत) मार्ग दिखाया, तब वह विषाक्त बाण से बिंधी हुई किन्नरी की भांति जमीन पर लेट गई।
English Commentary
This opens Canto 10. Manthara is explicitly labeled 'pāpayā' (sinful). Kaikeyi is compared to a Kinnari pierced by a 'digdha' (poisoned) arrow. This imagery is potent: Manthara’s words were not just sharp; they were toxic, infecting Kaikeyi’s mind with paranoia. She is "wounded" by fabricated fear and jealousy. Her lying on the ground signifies that she has been brought down by this poison and is now fully committed to the destructive path of the 'Kopabhavan'.

यह सर्ग 10 का आरम्भ है। यहाँ मंथरा को स्पष्ट रूप से 'पापया' (पापिनी) कहा गया है। कैकेयी की तुलना 'दिग्धविद्धेव' (विषाक्त बाण से घायल) किन्नरी से की गई है। यह बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है—मंथरा के शब्द केवल बाण नहीं, बल्कि 'विष' से बुझे बाण थे जिन्होंने कैकेयी के मन को संक्रमित कर दिया है। वह घायल है—अपने ही काल्पनिक भय और ईर्ष्या से। उसका जमीन पर लेटना यह दिखाता है कि वह अब पूरी तरह मंथरा के वश में है और 'कोप' (प्रतिकार) के लिए तैयार है।
