प्रियार्थं प्रियमाख्यातुं विवेशान्तःपुरं वशी ।
स कैकेय्या गृहं श्रेष्ठं प्रविवेश महायशाः ॥ ॥२-१०-११॥
Priyārhaṃ priyamākhyātuṃ viveśāntaḥpuraṃ vaśī । Sa kaikeyyā gṛhaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ praviveśa mahāyaśāḥ ॥ ॥2-10-11॥
Translation
To tell the pleasant news to her who deserved pleasant news, the self-controlled and highly illustrious King entered the excellent abode of Kaikeyi.

प्रिय समाचार पाने के योग्य उस (कैकेयी) को वह प्रिय समाचार सुनाने के लिए, जितेन्द्रिय और महायशस्वी राजा ने कैकेयी के श्रेष्ठ भवन में प्रवेश किया।
English Commentary
The adjectives used for Dasharatha here—vaśī (self-controlled) and mahāyaśāḥ (of great fame)—are significant. Even as he acts out of deep affection for his wife, the poet retains the King's dignity. Dasharatha views Kaikeyi as priyārhaṃ—worthy of hearing good news—believing she loves Rama as her own son. He assumes this news will bring her joy. The tragedy lies in the contrast between his intent and the reception awaiting him. He enters the "excellent house" expecting shared happiness, highlighting his innocent trust in Kaikeyi, unaware that her heart has turned against him and Rama.

यहाँ राजा के लिए 'वशी' (इन्द्रियों को वश में रखने वाला) और 'महायशाः' (महान यशस्वी) विशेषणों का प्रयोग महत्वपूर्ण है। यद्यपि दशरथ कैकेयी के प्रेम में आसक्त थे, कवि उन्हें उनके राजसी गुणों से अलग नहीं करते। दशरथ का मानना था कि कैकेयी राम से बहुत प्रेम करती है, इसलिए वह 'प्रियार्हं' (प्रिय समाचार की अधिकारिणी) है। उन्हें लगता था कि राम के अभिषेक की खबर सुनकर कैकेयी सबसे अधिक प्रसन्न होगी। नियति का खेल देखिए कि जिसे वे 'प्रिय समाचार' सुनाने जा रहे हैं, वही उनके प्राणों का अंत कारण बनेगी। यह श्लोक दशरथ के निष्कपट प्रेम और विश्वास को रेखांकित करता है।
