परिमृश्य च पाणिभ्यामभिसंत्रस्तचेतनः ।
कामी कमलपत्राक्षीमुवाच वनितामिदम् ॥ ॥२-१०-२७॥
Parimṛśya ca pāṇibhyāmabhisaṃtrastacetanaḥ । Kāmī kamalapatrākṣīmuvāca vanitāmidam ॥ ॥2-10-27॥
Translation
Caressing her with both hands, his mind terrified, the lustful/loving King spoke thus to his lotus-eyed lady.
हिंदी अनुवाद
डरे हुए मन से उसे दोनों हाथों से सहलाते हुए, उस कामी (प्रेमी) राजा ने कमल-नेत्रों वाली अपनी पत्नी से यह कहा।
English Commentary
The descriptor Kāmī (desirous/lover) for Dasharatha is significant. It reduces the Emperor to a man driven by passion/attachment. His fear (abhisaṃtrastacetanaḥ) is domestic, not political, yet it will have massive political consequences. He physically attempts to soothe her with his hands, a gesture of submission and desperation. Addressing her as kamalapatrākṣīm (lotus-eyed) even in this distraught state shows that his perception is filtered through the lens of desire; he sees her beauty, not her treachery. This verse sets the stage for his complete capitulation.

राजा के लिए यहाँ 'कामी' शब्द का प्रयोग बहुत सूचक है। यह शब्द केवल प्रेमी नहीं, बल्कि काम-वासना और आसक्ति में लिप्त व्यक्ति को दर्शाता है। उनका डर ('संत्रस्तचेतनः') किसी राज्य के संकट के कारण नहीं, बल्कि अपनी पत्नी की नाराजगी के कारण है। वे उसे 'कमलपत्राक्षीम्' (कमल जैसी आँखों वाली) के रूप में देख रहे हैं, जो दर्शाता है कि क्रोध और धूल में लिपटी होने के बावजूद, दशरथ की दृष्टि में उसका सौंदर्य ही सर्वोपरि है। यह आसक्ति ही उनकी कमजोरी है जिसका लाभ कैकेयी उठाएगी।
