मा रोदीर्मा च कार्षिस्त्वं देवि संपरिशोषणम् ॥ ॥२-१०-२८॥
Mā rodīrmā ca kārṣistvaṃ devi saṃpariśoṣaṇam ॥ ॥2-10-28॥
Translation
Do not weep, and do not cause yourself to waste away, O Queen.
हिंदी अनुवाद
रो मत। हे देवि! तुम (शरीर को सुखाने वाला) यह शोक मत करो।
English Commentary
A brief, desperate plea. Dasharatha begs her to stop crying and to stop "drying herself out" (saṃpariśoṣaṇam) with grief. He is terrified that her intense emotional display will physically harm her. This verse encapsulates his protective nature. He is entirely focused on alleviating her immediate distress, completely oblivious to the long-term catastrophe she is formulating. It serves as a bridge to his final, fatal offer in the next verse.

यह एक छोटा और भावुक आग्रह है। 'संपरिशोषणम्' का अर्थ है पूरी तरह से सूख जाना या क्षीण हो जाना। राजा को डर है कि इस तीव्र शोक से कैकेयी के स्वास्थ्य को हानि पहुँचेगी। उनकी कोमलता देखिये, वे उस स्त्री के स्वास्थ्य की चिंता कर रहे हैं जो उनके प्राण लेने पर उतारू है। यह दशरथ के चरित्र की अच्छाई और कमजोरी दोनों को दर्शाता है—वे अपने प्रियजनों का दुख नहीं देख सकते, भले ही वह दुख अनुचित ही क्यों न हो।
