English Commentary
'Ekaveṇī' (a single braid) is a traditional sign of a woman in mourning or separation from her husband. Kaikeyi adopts this look of a widow or ascetic while her husband is alive and approaching. She lies 'gatasattveva' (as if lifeless). The verse ends with a sharp scene shift: while she prepares for destruction, King Dasharatha, having finalized the coronation orders, approaches happily to share the news. This creates intense dramatic irony—the King believes he is visiting his beloved, unaware he is walking into a trap that will end his life.

'एकवेणी' (एक चोटी) शोक या वियोगिनी स्त्रियों का चिह्न है। कैकेयी ने अपने पति के जीवित रहते हुए भी वियोग का वेष बना लिया है। वह 'गतसत्त्वेव' (जिसमें प्राण न हो) सी पड़ी है। श्लोक का दूसरा भाग दृश्य बदलता है (Scene shift)—जहाँ एक ओर कैकेयी विध्वंस की तैयारी कर रही है, वहीं दूसरी ओर महाराज दशरथ राम के अभिषेक की अंतिम आज्ञा देकर खुशी-खुशी कैकेयी को यह शुभ समाचार सुनाने आ रहे हैं। यह 'ड्रामेटिक आयर्नी' (dramatic irony) है—राजा को पता नहीं कि वह अपनी प्रिय पत्नी के पास नहीं, बल्कि अपने विनाश के पास जा रहे हैं।
