जटिलं चीरवसनं प्राञ्जलिं पतितं भुवि ।
ददर्श रामो दुर्दर्शं युगान्ते भास्करं यथा ॥ ॥२-१००-१॥
Jaṭilaṃ cīravasanaṃ prāñjaliṃ patitaṃ bhuvi। Dadarśa rāmo durdarśaṃ yugānte bhāskaraṃ yathā ॥ ॥2-100-1॥
Translation
Rama saw Bharata, wearing matted locks and bark garments, lying on the ground with folded hands; he was difficult to look at, like the Sun at the end of the cosmic age (Yuganta).
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीराम ने जटाधारी, वल्कल वस्त्र पहने, हाथ जोड़े हुए पृथ्वी पर पड़े (लेटे) हुए भरत को देखा, जो प्रलयकाल के सूर्य की भाँति कठिनता से देखने योग्य (दुर्दर्श) हो रहे थे।
English Commentary
The visual imagery here is intense. Rama sees Bharata not merely as sad, but as physically transformed by penance and grief. The metaphor "like the Sun at the end of the Yuga" (Yugante Bhaskaram) suggests a brilliance that is terrifying or painful to behold. Usually, the sun is glorious, but at the end of the world, it is scorching; similarly, Bharata's presence radiates a scorching heat of sorrow and austerity that pains Rama's eyes. The description of matted locks and bark garments confirms that Bharata has mentally and physically adopted the exile alongside Rama, rejecting all royal comforts.

यहाँ 'दुर्दर्शं' (जिसे देखना कठिन हो) और 'युगान्ते भास्करं यथा' (प्रलयकालीन सूर्य के समान) की उपमा अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। भरत का तेज उनके तप और ब्रह्मचर्य के कारण प्रखर है, किन्तु उनका शरीर संताप और कृशता के कारण दग्ध हो रहा है। जैसे प्रलय के समय सूर्य का ताप असहनीय होता है, वैसे ही भरत का दुख और उनका तपस्वी रूप राम के लिए असहनीय था। राम ने कभी नहीं सोचा था कि उनके कोमल भाई की ऐसी दशा होगी। यह भरत की उग्र तपस्या और उनके आंतरिक क्लेश का चित्रण है, जो साधारण दुख नहीं, बल्कि एक तेजस्वी संताप है।
