कच्चिद्देवान् पितऽन् मातऽर्गुरून् पितृसमानपि ।
वृद्धांश्च तत वैद्यांश्च ब्राह्मणांश्चाभिमन्यसे ॥ ॥२-१००-१४॥
Kacciddevān pitṛn mātṛrgurūn pitṛsamānapi । Vṛddhāṃśca tata vaidyāṃśca brāhmaṇāṃścābhimanyase ॥ ॥2-100-14॥
Translation
Oh dear one, do you duly respect the gods, ancestors, mothers, preceptors, elders equivalent to the father, the aged, the physicians, and the Brahmins?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे तात! क्या तुम देवताओं, पितरों, माताओं, गुरुओं, पिता के समान बुजुर्गों, वृद्धों, वैद्यों और ब्राह्मणों का यथोचित सम्मान करते हो?
English Commentary
Rama provides a checklist of reverence essential for a leader's character. While gods, ancestors, and gurus represent the spiritual hierarchy, the inclusion of Vaidyan (physicians) highlights practical governance—respecting science and health alongside faith. Respecting Vrriddhan (the aged) ensures access to wisdom and experience. By asking this, Rama ensures Bharata has not become arrogant due to his sudden accession to power. A King who bows to wisdom and skill preserves his kingdom.

यहाँ राम सामाजिक और धार्मिक शिष्टाचार की सूची प्रस्तुत करते हैं। यह राजा की विनम्रता की परीक्षा है। देवताओं और पितरों के साथ-साथ 'वैद्यांश्च' (चिकित्सकों) का उल्लेख ध्यान देने योग्य है। राम व्यावहारिकता और आध्यात्मिकता का संतुलन जानते हैं। शरीर की रक्षा करने वाले वैद्य और आत्मा की रक्षा करने वाले ब्राह्मण, दोनों आदरणीय हैं। जो राजा अपने से बड़ों और ज्ञानियों का सम्मान नहीं करता, उसका पतन निश्चित है। 'अभिमन्यसे' का अर्थ है मन से आदर देना, केवल दिखावे के लिए नहीं।
