कच्चिच्छुश्रूषसे तात पितरं सत्यविक्रमम् ॥ ॥२-१००-८॥
Kaccicchūśrūṣase tāta pitaraṃ satyavikramam ॥ ॥2-100-8॥
Translation
Oh dear one, do you attend to (serve) our father, whose prowess is truth?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे तात! क्या तुम सत्य-पराक्रमी पिता की (यथोचित) सेवा करते हो?
English Commentary
Despite his fears, Rama frames the question in the present tense, clinging to the hope that the King is alive. He asks if Bharata is performing shushrusha (service/attending to needs) for their father. The epithet Satyavikramam (one whose valor is truth) is significant; it honors Dasaratha's adherence to his word (which caused Rama's exile) as an act of bravery, not weakness. Rama emphasizes that regardless of political status, the domestic duty of a son to his father remains the foundation of Dharma.

यद्यपि राम को पिता की मृत्यु की आशंका है, फिर भी वे वर्तमान काल (सुश्रूषसे - सेवा करते हो) में प्रश्न पूछते हैं, यह आशा करते हुए कि उनका भय गलत हो। 'सत्यविक्रमम्' (सत्य ही जिसका पराक्रम है) विशेषण दशरथ के लिए प्रयोग किया गया है, जो वचन के पक्के थे। राम भरत को याद दिला रहे हैं कि पुत्र का प्राथमिक धर्म पिता की सेवा है। यह प्रश्न यह भी जांचने के लिए है कि कहीं राज्य-काज के भार में भरत ने पिता की व्यक्तिगत सेवा की उपेक्षा तो नहीं कर दी।
