पुरा प्रेक्ष्य सुवृत्तं मां पिता यान्याह सान्त्वयन् ।
वाक्यानि तानि श्रोष्यामि कुत: कर्णसुखान्यहम् ॥ ॥२-१०२-१३॥
Purā prekṣya suvṛttaṃ māṃ pitā yānyāha sāntvayan । Vākyāni tāni śroṣyāmi kutaḥ karṇasukhānyaham ॥ ॥2-102-13॥
Translation
Where shall I now hear those words, pleasing to the ear, which my father used to speak to me soothingly, observing my good conduct in the past?

पहले मेरे अच्छे चरित्र (सुवृत्त) को देखकर पिताजी सांत्वना देते हुए जो वचन कहते थे, कानों को सुख देने वाले वे वचन अब मैं कहाँ (किससे) सुनूंगा?
English Commentary
Rama reminisces about the positive reinforcement he received from Dasharatha. The term Suvrittam (good conduct/character) is central to Rama's identity, but the validation of that conduct came from his father. He asks rhetorically where he will hear those Karna-sukhani (ear-pleasing) words again. This highlights a universal human emotion: the desire for parental approval. Rama realizes that with Dasharatha's death, the source of his most cherished emotional reward has dried up.

यह स्मृति-दंश (Memory pain) है। राम को याद आ रहा है कि कैसे दशरथ उनके कार्यों की प्रशंसा करते थे। 'सुवृत्तं' (सदाचार) राम का स्वभाव है, और उस पर पिता की शाबाशी उनका सबसे बड़ा पुरस्कार था। 'कर्णसुखानि' (कानों को सुखद लगने वाले) शब्द बताता है कि पिता की प्रशंसा अमृत समान थी। अब राम को लगता है कि भविष्य में वे चाहे जितने भी महान कार्य करें, उन्हें सराहने वाला वह मुख्य व्यक्ति अब नहीं है।
