Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततो बहुगुणं तेषां बाष्पं नेत्रेष्वजायत ।
तथा ब्रुवति काकुत्स्थे कुमाराणां यशस्विनाम् ॥ ॥२-१०२-१६॥
Tato bahuguṇaṃ teṣāṃ bāṣpaṃ netreṣvajāyata । Tathā bruvati kākutsthe kumārāṇāṃ yaśasvinām ॥ ॥2-102-16॥
Translation
As Kakutstha spoke thus, tears flowed many times more abundantly from the eyes of those illustrious princes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
काकुत्स्थ (राम) के ऐसा कहते ही उन यशस्वी कुमारों (लक्ष्मण, भरत, शत्रुघ्न) की आँखों में कई गुना अधिक आँसू उमड़ आए।
English Commentary
The confirmation of the death by Rama amplifies the grief. Bahugunam (manifold/multiplied) indicates that hearing the words aloud from their leader made the loss real. Valmiki refers to them as Yashasvinam (illustrious/glorious ones), juxtaposing their public glory with their private vulnerability. It emphasizes that grief is a universal leveller, sparing neither the strong nor the famous.

राम के मुख से पुष्टि होते ही शोक का बांध टूट गया। 'बहुगुणं' (कई गुना) शब्द दर्शाता है कि पहले वे शायद सन्न थे, लेकिन राम के शब्दों ने वास्तविकता को स्थापित कर दिया। यहाँ 'यशस्विनाम्' (यशस्वी) विशेषण का प्रयोग यह याद दिलाने के लिए है कि ये साधारण लोग नहीं, बल्कि महान योद्धा और राजकुमार हैं, फिर भी पितृ-शोक सबके लिए समान होता है। यह सामूहिक रुदन (Collective mourning) का दृश्य है जो भाइयों के आपसी प्रेम को भी दर्शाता है।
