Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततस्ते भ्रातर: सर्वे भृशमाश्वास्य राघवम् ।
अब्रुवन् जगतीभर्त्तु: क्रियतामुदकं पितु: ॥ ॥२-१०२-१७॥
Tataste bhrātaraḥ sarve bhṛśamāśvāsya rāghavam । Abruvan jagatībharttuḥ kriyatāmudakaṃ pituḥ ॥ ॥2-102-17॥
Translation
Then all those brothers, having greatly comforted Raghava, said: "Let the water rites be performed for our father, the Lord of the World."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उन सभी भाइयों ने राघव को भली-भांति ढाँढस बंधाया और कहा—"जगत के स्वामी पिता के लिए उदक-क्रिया (जलांजलि) कीजिये।"
English Commentary
Seeing Rama incapacitated by grief, the younger brothers step up. They comfort (Ashvasya) him. This shows the strength of their fraternity; when the pillar shakes, the others support it. They gently nudge him towards action: performing the Udaka (water rites). In Hindu grief management, ritual action is the prescribed antidote to paralyzing sorrow. They remind him that the King (Jagatibhartuh) awaits his offering.

यहाँ भूमिकाओं का परिवर्तन (Role Reversal) होता है। सामान्यतः राम सबको संभालते हैं, लेकिन अभी राम सबसे अधिक व्यथित हैं। इसलिए छोटे भाई (भरत, लक्ष्मण आदि) उन्हें संभालते हैं। वे राम को कर्तव्य की याद दिलाते हैं—'क्रियतामुदकं' (जल दान करें)। शोक के समय कर्तव्य ही व्यक्ति को अवसाद से बाहर निकालता है। भाइयों का आग्रह है कि विलाप छोड़कर अब पिता की आत्मा की शांति के लिए कर्म करना चाहिए।
