Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रगृह्य बाहू रामो वै पुष्पिताग्रो यथा द्रुम: ।
वने परशुना कृत्तस्तथा भुवि पपात ह ॥ ॥२-१०२-३॥
Pragṛhya bāhū rāmo vai puṣpitāgro yathā drumaḥ । Vane paraśunā kṛttastathā bhuvi papāta ha ॥ ॥2-102-3॥
Translation
Raising his arms, Rama fell upon the ground like a blossoming tree in the forest cut down by an axe.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब अपनी दोनों भुजाओं को ऊपर उठाकर, वन में कुल्हाड़ी से काटे गए फूलों से लदे (पुष्पिताग्र) वृक्ष की भाँति, राम पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े।
English Commentary
The imagery here is visual and symbolic. Rama raising his arms indicates a loss of balance and a gesture of helplessness. The simile compares him to a Pushpitagra Druma—a tree in full bloom at its peak. This suggests Rama was in the prime of his youth and spiritual vigor. The "axe" (Parashu) is the tragic news. Just as cutting a blossoming tree is considered a greater loss than cutting a dead one, Rama’s collapse highlights the abrupt interruption of his composure and vitality by the tragedy.

यह दृश्य अत्यंत करुण है। 'प्रगृह्य बाहू' (भुजाएं उठाकर) यह दर्शाता है कि राम को चक्कर आया और वे संतुलन खो बैठे, या यह हताशा (Despair) की मुद्रा है। 'पुष्पिताग्रो यथा द्रुम:' (जैसे फूलों से लदा वृक्ष) उपमा बहुत सार्थक है। राम युवावस्था में हैं, वनवास में तप और धर्म से सुशोभित (पुष्पित) हैं। पिता की मृत्यु का समाचार 'परशु' (कुल्हाड़ी) है जिसने इस हरे-भरे वृक्ष को जड़ से काट दिया। एक सूखे पेड़ का गिरना सामान्य है, पर फूलों से लदे पेड़ का कटना अधिक दुखद होता है।
