Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अब्रुवंश्चापि रामेण भरत: सङ्गतो ध्रुवम् ।
तेषामेव महाञ्छब्द: शोचतां पितरं मृतम् ॥ ॥२-१०२-३५॥
Abruvaṃścāpi rāmeṇa bharataḥ saṅgato dhruvam । Teṣāmeva mahāñchabdaḥ śocatāṃ pitaraṃ mṛtam ॥ ॥2-102-35॥
Translation
And they said to one another, "Surely Bharata has met with Rama. This loud sound belongs to them alone, grieving for their dead father."
हिंदी अनुवाद
और वे (सैनिक) आपस में कहने लगे—"निश्चित ही भरत राम से मिल गए हैं। अपने मृत पिता के लिए शोक करते हुए उन्हीं (राजकुमारों) का यह महान शब्द है।"
English Commentary
The soldiers display sharp situational awareness. They correctly deduce the cause of the commotion without seeing it. Their conclusion—that Bharata has met Rama and they are mourning King Dasharatha together—shows their understanding of the mission's context. The word 'dhruvam' (certainly/surely) highlights their confidence. They recognize that such a 'mahan shabda' (great sound) can only come from the collective grief of the four Raghu princes. This verse illustrates the deep empathy the subjects felt for the royal family, understanding the gravity of the reunion.
