वसिष्ठ: पुरत: कृत्वा दारान् दशरथस्य च ।
अभिचक्राम तं देशं रामदर्शनतर्षित: ॥ ॥२-१०३-१॥
Vasiṣṭhaḥ purataḥ kṛtvā dārān daśarathasya ca । Abhicakrāma taṃ deśaṃ rāmadarśanatarṣitaḥ ॥ ॥2-103-1॥
Translation
Vasistha, placing the wives of Dasharatha in front, proceeded towards that place, thirsty for the sight of Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उधर) वसिष्ठ जी, दशरथ जी की पत्नियों को आगे करके, श्रीराम के दर्शन की प्यास लिए उस स्थान की ओर चले।
English Commentary
The focus shifts to the royal entourage led by the family preceptor, Sage Vasistha. The descriptor Rama-darshana-tarshitah (thirsty for the sight of Rama) is profound. It indicates that Rama’s charm entices even a self-realized sage like Vasistha, who usually transcends worldly attachments. Despite his own eagerness, Vasistha observes protocol and compassion by placing the queens in front (puratah kritva). He understands a mother's pain and prioritizes Kausalya and the others, allowing them the first glimpse of the prince. This action reflects the sage's wisdom and empathy amidst the prevailing sorrow.

इस सर्ग के आरम्भ में दृश्य बदलता है। अब ध्यान राजपरिवार की स्त्रियों और कुलगुरु वसिष्ठ पर है। वसिष्ठ जी, जो ज्ञानी और विरक्त हैं, वे भी श्रीराम से मिलने के लिए व्याकुल हैं। 'रामदर्शनतर्षित:' (राम के दर्शन का प्यासा) शब्द अत्यंत भावपूर्ण है। यह दर्शाता है कि श्रीराम का व्यक्तित्व ऐसा है कि ब्रह्मज्ञानी ऋषि भी उनके वियोग में तड़पते हैं। वसिष्ठ जी ने शिष्टाचार वश रानियों को आगे (पुरत: कृत्वा) किया, ताकि माँ कौसल्या और अन्य माताएं सबसे पहले अपने पुत्र को देख सकें। यह एक श्रेष्ठ आचार्य की विनम्रता और संवेदनशीलता का परिचायक है।
