Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राजपत्न्यश्च गच्छन्त्यो मन्दं मन्दाकिनीं प्रति ।
ददृशुस्तत्र तत्तीर्थं रामलक्ष्मणसेवितम् ॥ ॥२-१०३-२॥
Rājapatnyaśca gacchantyo mandaṃ mandākinīṃ prati । Dadṛśustatra tattīrthaṃ rāmalakṣmaṇasevitam ॥ ॥2-103-2॥
Translation
The royal wives, walking slowly towards the Mandakini river, saw there the ghat (water-place) used by Rama and Lakshmana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे राजरानियाँ मंद गति से मन्दाकिनी नदी की ओर जाती हुई उस घाट (तीर्थ) को देखा, जिसका सेवन (उपयोग) राम और लक्ष्मण किया करते थे।
English Commentary
The queens walk mandam (slowly), weighed down by age, grief, and the rugged terrain. As they approach the Mandakini, they spot the specific landing place used by the princes. The term Rama-Lakshmana-sevitam (served/used by Rama and Lakshmana) transforms a generic riverbank into a holy spot (Tirtha) in their eyes. For the mothers, seeing the place where their exiled sons performed daily chores brings a fresh wave of realization regarding the princes' fallen standard of living. It serves as a physical evidence of the hardship their sons are enduring, bridging the gap between imagination and reality.

रानियों की चाल 'मंदं' (धीमी) है, जो उनकी वृद्धावस्था, शोक और मार्ग की थकान को दर्शाती है। नदी के तट पर पहुँचते ही उनकी दृष्टि उस विशेष स्थान (तीर्थ) पर पड़ी जहाँ राम और लक्ष्मण जल लेने आते थे। 'रामलक्ष्मणसेवितम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है। किसी सामान्य नदी का तट अब 'तीर्थ' बन गया है क्योंकि वह श्रीराम और लक्ष्मण द्वारा उपयोग किया गया है। यहाँ निर्जीव वस्तुओं और स्थानों का भी भगवान के स्पर्श से पावन हो जाना दर्शाया गया है। माताओं के लिए, वह साधारण घाट भी अब वंदनीय और साथ ही अत्यंत कष्टदायी स्मृति चिन्ह बन गया है।
