Translation
Those large-eyed mothers, with their auspicious hands possessing soft fingers and palms and a pleasing touch, wiped the dust from Rama's back.

उन विशाल नेत्रों वाली माताओं ने सुखद स्पर्श वाले, कोमल अंगुलियों और हथेलियों से युक्त अपने शुभ हाथों से राम की पीठ से धूल झाड़ी।
English Commentary
This verse captures a profoundly tactile moment of maternal affection ("vatsalya"). Powerless to end his exile or restore his kingdom, the mothers perform the one small act of care available to them: wiping the dust from his back. The description of their hands as "sukhasparśaiḥ" (pleasant to touch) and "mṛdvaṅgulitalaiḥ" (with soft fingers/palms) contrasts sharply with the gritty "rajaḥ" (dust) covering the Prince. It symbolizes their attempt to comfort him physically, removing the harshness of the forest from his body, even if just for a moment. It is an intimate, wordless communication of love and sorrow.

यह श्लोक वात्सल्य रस का अद्वितीय उदाहरण है। माताएं राम के वनवास को नहीं बदल सकतीं, न ही उनके जटा-वल्कल को हटा सकती हैं, परंतु वे अपनी 'मृद्वङ्गुलितलैः' (कोमल अंगुलियों) से उनकी पीठ पर लगी धूल तो झाड़ ही सकती हैं। यह एक सहज मातृ-सुलभ क्रिया है। 'सुखस्पर्शैः' (सुखद स्पर्श) बताता है कि राम को माताओं के स्पर्श से कितनी शांति मिली होगी। राजमहलों में रहने वाली रानियों के कोमल हाथ और राम की धूल-धूसरित पीठ—यह स्पर्श वनवास की कठोरता और मातृप्रेम की कोमलता का मिलन है। वे अपनी ममता उस स्पर्श के माध्यम से उंडेल रही हैं।
