सीतापि चरणांस्तासामुपसंगृह्य दु:खिता ।
श्वश्रूणामश्रुपूर्णाक्षी सा बभूवाग्रत: स्थिता ॥ ॥२-१०३-२२॥
Sītāpi caraṇāṃstāsāmupasaṃgṛhya du:khitā । Śvaśrūṇāmaśrupūrṇākṣī sā babhūvāgrata: sthitā ॥ ॥2-103-22॥
Translation
Sita too, filled with sorrow, touched the feet of her mothers-in-law and stood before them with eyes full of tears.

सीता भी अत्यंत दुखी होकर उन सासों के चरणों को पकड़कर (स्पर्श कर), आंसुओं से भरे नेत्रों के साथ उनके सामने खड़ी हो गईं।
English Commentary
Sita’s plight is portrayed with heartbreaking simplicity. As the royal daughter-in-law, her standing before the queens in hermit's garb is a stark inversion of social norms. She performs the respectful "upasaṃgṛhya" (clasping/touching feet) but cannot speak. Her "aśrupūrṇākṣī" (tear-filled eyes) convey her grief better than words. Her silence represents the complex mix of sorrow for her father-in-law's death, empathy for the widowed queens, and the humility of her current destitute state. Standing "agrataḥ" (in front) of them, she presents herself as a testament to the harsh reality of their exile.

सीता की स्थिति यहाँ सबसे अधिक करुण है। एक कुलवधू के रूप में, उन्हें राजमहल में होना चाहिए था, लेकिन वे वन में धूल-धूसरित खड़ी हैं। 'उपसंगृह्य' शब्द का अर्थ है आदरपूर्वक चरण स्पर्श करना। सीता कुछ बोल नहीं पातीं, केवल 'अश्रुपूर्णाक्षी' (आंसुओं से भरी आँखों वाली) होकर खड़ी रहती हैं। उनका मौन ही उनकी व्यथा को व्यक्त करता है। वे सासों के सामने लज्जा और शोक के मिश्रित भाव के साथ खड़ी हैं, क्योंकि वे उन्हें उस वैभव में नहीं मिल रही हैं जिसकी वे अधिकारिणी थीं, और न ही वे अपने ससुर दशरथ के अंतिम दर्शन कर सकीं।
