इत्युक्त: कैकयीपुत्र: काकुत्स्थेन महात्मना ।
प्रगृह्य बलवद्भूय: प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-१०४-४॥
Ityukta: kaikayīputra: kākutsthena mahātmanā । Pragṛhya balavadbhūya: prāñjalirvākyamabravīt ॥ ॥2-104-4॥
Translation
Being thus addressed by the high-souled Kakutstha (Rama), the son of Kaikeyi (Bharata), restraining himself with great effort, spoke these words with folded hands.

महात्मा काकुत्स्थ (राम) द्वारा ऐसा कहे जाने पर, कैकेयीपुत्र (भरत) ने अपने आप को बड़ी कठिनाई से संभालते हुए, हाथ जोड़कर (प्राञ्जलि) यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The epithet 'Kaikayīputra' is used here with narrative weight; he is the son of the woman who caused this tragedy, yet he stands as the innocent bearer of its consequences. The phrase 'pragṛhya balavadbhūyaḥ' (restraining himself with great strength) indicates that Bharata is on the verge of an emotional collapse. He has to physically summon all his strength to suppress his sobs in order to articulate the terrible news. His folded hands ('prāñjali') show his subservience and reverence to Rama as he prepares to deliver the blow.
