न मया शासनं तस्य त्यक्तुं न्याय्यमरिन्दम ।
तत् त्वयापि सदा मान्यं स वै बन्धु: स न: पिता ॥२-१०५-४२॥
na mayā śāsanaṃ tasya tyaktuṃ nyāyyamarindama |
tat tvayāpi sadā mānyaṃ sa vai bandhuḥ sa naḥ pitā ॥2-105-42॥
Translation
O Subduer of Enemies! It is not just for me to abandon his command. That (command) must always be respected by you too; for he is indeed our kinsman and he is our father.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे अरिन्दम! मेरे लिए उनकी आज्ञा का त्याग करना न्यायसंगत नहीं है। तुम्हारे द्वारा भी वह (आज्ञा) सदा मानने योग्य है, क्योंकि वे ही हमारे बंधु हैं और वे ही हमारे पिता हैं।
English Commentary
Rama reinforces the inviolability of the patriarchal command. He declares that abandoning the father's order is not 'Nyayyam' (just/lawful). He appeals to the dual relationship they have with Dasharatha: he is 'Pita' (father, figure of authority) and 'Bandhu' (friend/kinsman, figure of love). Therefore, the command is binding through both duty and love. Rama uses the epithet 'Arindama' again to urge Bharata to conquer his own hesitation. The verse establishes the hierarchy of Dharma: personal desires (even the noble desire to have Rama as king) must be sacrificed at the altar of the father's word (Satya/Truth).

राम यहाँ 'न्याय' (Justice/Dharma) की बात करते हैं। पिता के वचन को तोड़ना अधर्म है। 'स वै बन्धु: स न: पिता'—पिता केवल जन्मदाता नहीं, बल्कि हमारा सबसे बड़ा हितैषी (बंधु) और गुरु है। उसकी आज्ञा मानना विकल्प नहीं, अनिवार्यता है। राम भरत को 'अरिन्दम' (शत्रुदमन) कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि भरत को अपने आंतरिक शत्रु (मोह और शोक) का दमन करके पिता की आज्ञा को शिरोधार्य करना चाहिए। राम का दृढ़ निश्चय यह है कि वे किसी भी कीमत पर पिता के वचन को नहीं गिरने देंगे, और वे भरत से भी यही अपेक्षा करते हैं।
