Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्त्वा तु विरते रामे वचनमर्थवत् ।
ततो मन्दाकिनीतीरे रामं प्रकृतिवत्सलम् ।
उवाच भरतश्चित्रं धार्मिको धार्मिकं वच: ॥ ॥२-१०६-१॥
Evamuktvā tu virate rāme vacanamarthavat । Tato mandākinītīre rāmaṃ prakṛtivatsalam ॥ Uvāca bharataścitraṃ dhārmiko dhārmikaṃ vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-106-1॥
Translation
When Rama ceased speaking after uttering such meaningful words, the righteous Bharata spoke these wonderful words to Rama, who is affectionate toward his people, on the banks of the Mandakini.

श्रीराम के इस प्रकार अर्थपूर्ण वचन कहकर चुप हो जाने पर, धर्मात्मा भरत ने मन्दाकिनी के तट पर अपने स्वजनों से प्रेम करने वाले, धर्मात्मा राम से यह अद्भुत वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The setting establishes a serene and holy atmosphere on the banks of the river Mandakini. The descriptors used are pivotal: Rama is Prakṛtivatsalam (lover of nature/subjects/kin), indicating that his refusal to return is not due to a lack of love, but adherence to truth.
