कथं दशरथाज्जात: शुद्धाभिजनकर्मण: ।
जानन् धर्ममधर्मिष्ठं कुर्य्यां कर्म जुगुप्सितम् ॥ ॥२-१०६-१०॥
Kathaṃ daśarathājjātaḥ śuddhābhijanakarmaṇaḥ । Jānan dharmamadharmiṣṭhaṃ kuryyāṃ karma jugupsitam ॥ ॥2-106-10॥
Translation
Born of Dasharatha, whose lineage and deeds were pure, and knowing Dharma, how could I commit such a prohibited and despicable act (of killing my mother)?

शुद्ध कुल और शुद्ध कर्म वाले महाराज दशरथ से उत्पन्न होकर, और धर्म को जानते हुए, मैं (माता की हत्या जैसा) अधर्मयुक्त और घृणित कर्म कैसे कर सकता हूँ?
English Commentary
Bharata rationalizes his restraint through his lineage. He invokes Dasharatha, describing him as one of pure descent and deeds (śuddhābhijanakarmaṇaḥ). Being the son of such a noble soul, Bharata argues that he is genetically and ethically incapable of committing a jugupsitam (disgusting/reprehensible) act like matricide, even if provoked. This rhetorical question affirms his adherence to Dharma despite the immense provocation. It serves to align him with Rama—both are sons of the same noble father, and both are bound by the same code of conduct, regardless of the injustice they face.

पिछले श्लोक में व्यक्त क्रोध के बाद, यहाँ भरत अपने संयम का कारण अपने कुल और पिता के संस्कारों को बताते हैं। दशरथ 'शुद्धाभिजनकर्मण:' थे—जिनका जन्म और कर्म दोनों पवित्र थे। ऐसे पिता का पुत्र होकर भरत 'जुगुप्सितम्' (घृणित) कार्य कैसे कर सकते हैं? मातृ-हत्या एक जघन्य पाप है। भरत यह स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि राज्य के लोभ में कैकेयी ने जो किया, उसका बदला वे अधर्म से नहीं ले सकते क्योंकि वे दशरथ के रक्त हैं। यह उनकी नैतिक श्रेष्ठता और राम के प्रति उनकी वफादारी का प्रमाण है।
