तदपत्यं भवानस्तु मा भवान् दुष्कृतं पितु: ।
अभिपत्ता कृतं कर्म लोके धीरविगर्हितम् ॥ ॥२-१०६-१६॥
Tadapatyaṃ bhavānastu mā bhavān duṣkṛtaṃ pituḥ । Abhipattā kṛtaṃ karma loke dhīravigarhitam ॥ ॥2-106-16॥
Translation
Therefore, be a true son (protect him from falling). Do not follow the sinful act committed by our father, which is condemned by the wise in this world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अतः आप (मेरे द्वारा बताए गए अर्थ वाले) सच्चे 'अपत्य' बनिए। आप पिता के द्वारा किए गए उस दुष्कर्म (पाप) का पालन न करें, जिसकी संसार के सभी बुद्धिमान लोग निंदा करते हैं।
English Commentary
Bharata presses the point: "Be that true son." He warns Rama against becoming an abhipattā (follower/upholder) of the duṣkṛtaṃ (evil deed) of their father. He emphasizes that the exile order is dhīra-vigarhitam—censured by the wise and steady-minded. This is a crucial social validation; if the collective wisdom of society condemns an act, adhering to it is not Dharma. Bharata pleads with Rama to distance himself from the sin by nullifying it, rather than validating it through obedience.

भरत राम को चुनौती देते हैं कि वे पिता के 'दुष्कृतं' (बुरे कर्म) के भागीदार न बनें। 'धीरविगर्हितम्'—अर्थात् धैर्यवान और ज्ञानी लोग दशरथ के इस कृत्य की निंदा कर रहे हैं। यदि राम वनवास स्वीकार करते हैं, तो वे परोक्ष रूप से उस निंदनीय कृत्य का समर्थन कर रहे हैं। भरत का आग्रह है कि राम को 'अपत्य' की परिभाषा को चरितार्थ करते हुए, पिता की गलती को सुधारकर उन्हें यशस्वी बनाना चाहिए, न कि उनकी गलती को शिरोधार्य करके उसे और गहरा करना चाहिए।
