ऋणान्मोचय राजानं मत्कृते भरत प्रभुम् ।
पितरं चापि धर्मज्ञं मातरं चाभिनन्दय ॥२-१०७-१०॥
Ṛṇānmocaya rājānaṃ matkṛte bharata prabhum |
Pitaraṃ cāpi dharmajñaṃ mātaraṃ cābhinandaya ॥2-107-10॥
Translation
O Bharata, for my sake, liberate the capable King from his debt. Bring joy to our father, who knew Dharma, and to your mother.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे भरत! मेरे लिए (मेरी खातिर) समर्थ राजा को ऋण से मुक्त करो। धर्मज्ञ पिता और माता (कैकेयी) को भी आनंदित (संतुष्ट) करो।
English Commentary
Rama invokes the concept of 'Rina' (spiritual/karmic debt). A promise unkept is a debt that binds the soul. Dasharatha died with the promise to Kaikeyi technically pending (since Bharata hadn't accepted the throne yet). Rama pleads 'matkrte' (for my sake) to free the father from this debt. If Bharata refuses the throne, he condemns his father to being a debtor. Furthermore, Rama explicitly commands Bharata to please his mother ('Mataram ca abhinandaya'), instructing him to drop his hostility toward Kaikeyi. This shows Rama's focus on healing the family fracture alongside preserving Dharma.

भारतीय दर्शन में 'ऋण' (Debt) की अवधारणा प्रमुख है। जब तक वचन पूरा नहीं होता, व्यक्ति ऋणी रहता है, चाहे वह जीवित हो या मृत। राम भरत से कहते हैं 'मत्कृते' (मेरे लिए)—यदि तुम मुझसे प्रेम करते हो, तो पिता को ऋणमुत्र करो। राजा दशरथ ने कैकेयी को वचन दिया था, वह उन पर ऋण था। भरत के राजा बनने पर ही वह ऋण उतरेगा। साथ ही, राम 'मातरं चाभिनन्दय' कहते हैं—अर्थात अपनी माता कैकेयी का सम्मान करो और उन्हें प्रसन्न करो, उनका तिरस्कार मत करो। यह राम की उदात्त क्षमाशीलता का प्रतीक है।
