छायां ते दिनकरभा: प्रबाधमानं वर्षत्रं भरत करोतु मूर्ध्नि शीताम् ।
एतेषामहमपि काननद्रुमाणां छायां तामति शयिनीं सुखी श्रयिष्ये ॥२-१०७-१८॥
Chāyāṃ te dinakarabhāḥ prabādhamānaṃ varṣatraṃ bharata karotu mūrdhni śītām |
Eteṣāmahamapi kānanadrumāṇāṃ chāyāṃ tāmati śayinīṃ sukhī śrayiṣye ॥2-107-18॥
Translation
O Bharata, let the royal umbrella, blocking the sun's rays, create cool shade upon your head. I, too, shall happily take shelter under the dense shade of these forest trees.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे भरत! (अयोध्या में) सूर्य की धूप को रोकने वाला छत्र (Royal Umbrella) तुम्हारे सिर पर शीतल छाया करे। और मैं यहाँ इन वन के वृक्षों की घनी छाया का सुखपूर्वक आश्रय लूँगा।
English Commentary
Rama continues the parallel imagery. He contrasts the Chatra (royal umbrella) that signifies kingship with the natural canopy of the forest trees. He blesses Bharata to enjoy the cool shade of the royal insignia, which protects one from the harsh sun (and metaphorically, the harshness of governance). In turn, Rama claims he will 'happily' (Sukhi) resort to the shade of the trees. By romanticizing the forest life, Rama attempts to alleviate Bharata's distress about Rama's physical hardships. He frames his own condition as one of natural comfort, distinct from but equal to royal luxury.

यहाँ राम राजसी सुख और वनवासी जीवन के बीच एक सुंदर तुलना (Contrast) प्रस्तुत करते हैं। 'वर्षत्रं' (वर्षा और धूप से बचाने वाला छत्र) राजपद का प्रतीक है। राम कहते हैं कि तुम्हें वह कृत्रिम छाया मिले, और मुझे प्रकृति की 'काननद्रुमाणां छायां' (वृक्षों की छाया) मिले। राम इसमें 'सुखी' (सुखपूर्वक) शब्द जोड़ते हैं, यह जताने के लिए कि उन्हें राजछत्र न होने का कोई मलाल नहीं है। वृक्षों की छाया उन्हें अधिक शांति देगी। यह भरत को यह समझाने का तरीका है कि राम का जीवन कष्टमय नहीं, बल्कि एक अलग प्रकार के आनंद से युक्त होगा।
