न ते कश्चिद्दशरथस्त्वं च तस्य न कश्चन ।
अन्यो राजा त्वमन्य: स तस्मात् कुरु यदुच्यते ॥२-१०८-१०॥
Na te kaściddaśarathastvaṃ ca tasya na kaścana |
Anyo rājā tvamaniyāḥ sa tasmāt kuru yaducyate ॥2-108-10॥
Translation
Dasharatha was nothing to you, and you were nothing to him. That King was one person, and you are another. Therefore, do what is being told.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दशरथ तुम्हारे कोई नहीं थे और तुम भी उनके कोई नहीं हो। वह राजा (दशरथ) कोई और थे, और तुम कोई और हो। इसलिए, जो (मैं) कह रहा हूँ, उसे करो।
English Commentary
Jabali presents a radical disconnect between father and son. "He was another, you are another." This strikes at the root of the Vedic family structure which views the son as the extension of the father (Atma vai putranamaasi). Jabali argues for total autonomy. If Dasharatha made a promise, it was his action; Rama, being a separate entity, has no logical obligation to suffer for it. This is a cold, rationalist attempt to sever the emotional cord binding Rama to Dasharatha's memory, urging him to act in his own self-interest.

जाबालि यहाँ व्यक्तिवाद की चरम सीमा पर हैं। वे आत्मा की एकता या खून के रिश्तों को नकारते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि दो व्यक्ति पूरी तरह अलग सत्ता (Entities) हैं। पिता और पुत्र का संबंध केवल सामाजिक और शारीरिक संयोग है। जब दो जीव अलग हैं, तो एक के वचन से दूसरा क्यों बंधे? दशरथ अपने कर्मों और वचनों के लिए जिम्मेदार थे, राम अपने जीवन के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं। यह तर्क राम को अपराध-बोध (Guilt) से मुक्त करने के लिए है। जाबालि कह रहे हैं: "दशरथ का अध्याय समाप्त हुआ, अब अपनी किताब लिखो।"
