अर्थधर्मपरा ये ये तांस्तान् शोचामि नेतरान् ।
ते हि दु:खमिह प्राप्य विनाशं प्रेत्य भेजिरे ॥२-१०८-१३॥
Arthadharmaparā ye ye tāṃstān śocāmi netarān |
Te hi duḥkhamiha prāpya vināśaṃ pretya bhejire ॥2-108-13॥
Translation
I pity those who are solely devoted to wealth (in a religious sense) and Dharma, not others. For having suffered pain here (in this life), they meet with destruction after death.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो-जो लोग (सुख छोड़कर केवल) अर्थ और धर्म के पीछे पागल रहते हैं, मैं उन पर शोक करता हूँ, दूसरों (भोगियों) पर नहीं। क्योंकि वे यहाँ (इस लोक में) दुख भोगते हैं और मरने के बाद विनाश को प्राप्त होते हैं।
English Commentary
Jabali expresses pity not for the sinners, but for the righteous. He attacks those obsessed with Artha (in the sense of religious accumulation) and Dharma. His logic: Religious people suffer voluntary hardships in life (fasting, celibacy, exile) hoping for a reward after death. But since (according to Jabali) death is absolute annihilation (Vinasha), they lose twice—they miss the pleasures of this world and get nothing in the next. This is a direct critique of the 'Pascal's Wager' type logic; Jabali is certain there is no afterlife, making Dharma a losing bet.

यह चार्वाक मत का स्पष्ट घोषणापत्र है। जाबालि कहते हैं कि धार्मिक लोग दया के पात्र हैं। वे इस जीवन में व्रत-उपवास करके शरीर को कष्ट देते हैं, और मरने के बाद उन्हें कुछ नहीं मिलता क्योंकि 'मोक्ष' या 'स्वर्ग' जैसी कोई चीज नहीं है—केवल 'विनाश' (Nothingness) है। उनका मानना है कि जो लोग इस जीवन का आनंद लेते हैं, वे ही बुद्धिमान हैं। जाबालि राम को चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि यदि वे धर्म के मार्ग पर चले, तो वे 'दोनों हाथ से जाएंगे'—न यहाँ का सुख मिलेगा, न परलोक का (क्योंकि परलोक है ही नहीं)।
