समृद्धायामयोध्यायामात्मानमभिषेचय ।
एकवेणी धरा हि त्वां नगरी सम्प्रतीक्षते ॥२-१०८-८॥
Samṛddhāyāmayodhyāyāmātmānamabhiṣecaya |
Ekaveṇī dharā hi tvāṃ nagarī sampratīkṣate ॥2-108-8॥
Translation
Get yourself consecrated in the prosperous Ayodhya. Indeed, the city waits for you like a woman wearing a single braid (signifying separation/mourning).
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम समृद्ध अयोध्या में अपना राज्याभिषेक करवाओ। वह नगरी 'एकवेणी' धारण किए हुए (पति के वियोग में दुखी स्त्री की भाँति) तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा कर रही है।
English Commentary
Jabali shifts to a poetic and emotional appeal. He personifies the city of Ayodhya using the metaphor of 'Ekaveni dhara'—a woman wearing a single braid. In ancient Indian culture, this was a sign of a Proshitabhartrika (a woman whose husband is away), signifying mourning, austerity, and waiting. Jabali argues that Rama's primary duty is to the living city that grieves for him, not to a dead father. He contrasts the 'prosperity' (Samriddhayam) of the city with its current sorrow, urging Rama to return and restore its glory through his coronation.

जाबालि अब भावनात्मक तर्क देते हैं। 'एकवेणी धरा' एक शक्तिशाली उपमा है। प्राचीन भारत में, जब पति दूर चला जाता था, तो स्त्रियाँ श्रृंगार त्यागकर बालों की केवल एक वेणी (चोटी) गूँथती थीं। जाबालि अयोध्या नगरी का मानवीकरण (Personification) करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि अयोध्या तुम्हारी विरहिणी पत्नी के समान है। यहाँ जाबालि राम के उस दायित्व को जगा रहे हैं जो 'जीवित' लोगों (प्रजा) के प्रति है, न कि 'मृत' पिता के प्रति। वे कहते हैं कि मृत पिता के भूत के पीछे भागने के बजाय, जीवित अयोध्या के आँसू पोंछना अधिक बड़ा धर्म है।
