Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जाबालेस्तु वच: श्रुत्वा राम: सत्यात्मनां वर: ।
उवाच परया भक्त्या स्वबुद्ध्या चाविपन्नया ॥ ॥२-१०९-१॥
Jābālestu vacaḥ śrutvā rāmaḥ satyātmanāṃ varaḥ । Uvāca parayā bhaktyā svabuddhyā cāvipannayā ॥ ॥2-109-1॥
Translation
Hearing the words of Jabali, Rama, the best among the truthful, spoke with supreme devotion (respect for the sage) and with an unconfused, clear intellect.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जाबालि के वचन सुनकर, सत्यवादियों में श्रेष्ठ श्रीराम ने परम भक्ति (श्रद्धा) के साथ, किन्तु अपनी अविचलित (निर्दोष) बुद्धि का प्रयोग करते हुए कहा।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a crucial transition, highlighting Rama's composure and intellectual clarity. Despite Jabali's arguments attacking the very foundation of Rama's life (Dharma and Truth), Rama responds not with anger, but with bhakti (devotion/respect) due to a sage. However, the text notes his intellect remained avipannaya—undisturbed, uncorrupted, and clear. Rama, the 'best of those rooted in Truth,' demonstrates that one can be respectful to a person while firmly disagreeing with their philosophy. He is about to dismantle the materialist argument not out of emotion, but through a superior, unclouded understanding of Dharma.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम के चरित्र की महानता और संतुलन को दर्शाता है। जाबालि ने नास्तिक वाद प्रस्तुत किया जो श्रीराम के जीवन मूल्यों के ठीक विपरीत था, फिर भी श्रीराम क्रोधित नहीं हुए। उन्होंने 'परया भक्त्या' (परम भक्ति) के साथ उत्तर दिया, जो ब्राह्मणों और ऋषियों के प्रति उनके शिष्टाचार को दिखाता है। किन्तु, साथ ही उनकी बुद्धि 'अविपन्न' (विकार रहित या भ्रम रहित) थी। वे जाबालि के तर्कजाल में फँसे नहीं। श्रीराम ने सम्मान और सत्य का अद्भुत संतुलन बनाए रखा। वे जानते थे कि ऋषि का सम्मान करना धर्म है, किन्तु उनके अधार्मिक विचारों को स्वीकार न करना भी धर्म है।
