Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सत्यमेवेश्वरो लोके सत्यं पद्मा श्रिता सदा ।
सत्यमूलानि सर्वाणि सत्यान्नास्ति परं पदम् ॥ ॥२-१०९-१३॥
satyameveśvaro loke satyaṃ padmā śritā sadā । satyamūlāni sarvāṇi satyānnāsti paraṃ padam ॥ ॥2-109-13॥
Translation
Truth alone is God in this world. Lakshmi (Fortune) always resides in Truth. All things are rooted in Truth; there is no state higher than Truth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सत्य ही इस लोक में साक्षात् ईश्वर है। लक्ष्मी (श्री) सदा सत्य का ही आश्रय लेती हैं। समस्त संसार और धर्म सत्य में ही प्रतिष्ठित हैं; सत्य से बढ़कर अन्य कोई पद (या स्थान) नहीं है।
English Commentary
This verse contains the quintessence of Rama’s philosophy: "Truth alone is God." This equates ethical integrity with divinity. Rama asserts that Padma (Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune and royal sovereignty) resides permanently only where Truth exists. This is a direct rebuttal to the idea that one must compromise ethics to maintain sovereignty. Rama argues that legitimate power and prosperity are byproducts of adherence to Truth. By stating "All things are rooted in Truth," Rama presents a worldview where moral law is as fundamental as physical law. There is no status or position superior to the state of being truthful. Thus, maintaining his vow is an act of worship and the preservation of cosmic order.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण दार्शनिक उद्गारों में से एक है। राम कहते हैं 'सत्यमेवेश्वरो लोके'—अर्थात् सत्य और ईश्वर भिन्न नहीं हैं। जहाँ सत्य है, वहीं दिव्यता है। राम यह भी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि भौतिक समृद्धि (पद्मा/लक्ष्मी) भी अंततः सत्य के आश्रय में ही टिकती है। असत्य से प्राप्त धन या राज्य अस्थायी होता है। 'सत्यमूलानि सर्वाणि' का अर्थ है कि ब्रह्मांड का अस्तित्व ही सत्य पर आधारित है। यदि राजा ही सत्य छोड़ दे, तो राज्य की नींव ढह जाएगी। राम का यह दृढ़ विश्वास है कि पिता के वचन का पालन करना केवल एक पारिवारिक कर्तव्य नहीं, बल्कि उस 'परम सत्य' की आराधना है जो ईश्वर का स्वरूप है।
