एक: पालयते लोकमेक: पालयते कुलम् ।
मज्जत्येको हि निरय एक: स्वर्गे महीयते ॥ ॥२-१०९-१५॥
ekaḥ pālayate lokamekaḥ pālayate kulam । majjatyeko hi niraya ekaḥ svarge mahīyate ॥ ॥2-109-15॥
Translation
One person protects the world, one protects the family lineage. One sinks into hell (due to falsehood), while another is exalted in heaven (due to truth).

एक (सत्यवादी) लोक का पालन करता है, एक कुल की रक्षा करता है। (असत्यवादी) एक नरक में डूबता है, जबकि (सत्यवादी) एक स्वर्ग में प्रतिष्ठित होता है।
English Commentary
Rama highlights the immense responsibility resting on the individual, particularly a leader. The verse emphasizes singularity (ekah)—implying that the integrity of a single individual can determine the fate of the entire world and their lineage. Conversely, the moral failure of one person leads to their spiritual destruction ("sinks into hell"). This juxtaposition serves to remind Jabali that Rama’s decision is not merely about personal gain or loss, but about the destiny of his soul and the honor of his dynasty. It reflects the Law of Karma, where the individual acts alone and reaps the consequences alone, yet those actions have a ripple effect on the family and society.

इस श्लोक में व्यक्ति के कर्म और उसके प्रभाव की एकांतता (Individuality) पर जोर दिया गया है। राम समझाते हैं कि राजा या मुखिया का आचरण केवल उसी तक सीमित नहीं रहता; 'एक' सत्यवादी राजा पूरे लोक और कुल का रक्षक बन जाता है। इसके विपरीत, यदि वह धर्म से विमुख होता है, तो वह न केवल स्वयं नरक में जाता है, बल्कि अपने कुल को भी कलंकित करता है। यहाँ 'एक' शब्द का प्रयोग दायित्व बोध कराने के लिए हुआ है—सत्य और असत्य का चयन व्यक्तिगत है, लेकिन उसके परिणाम व्यापक हैं। राम यह मान रहे हैं कि यदि वे वन नहीं गए, तो वे रघुकुल को डुबोने वाले बनेंगे, और यदि वे सत्य पर अड़े रहे, तो वे कुल के रक्षक सिद्ध होंगे।
