सो ऽहं पितुर्नियोगन्तु किमर्थं नानुपालये ।
सत्यप्रतिश्रव: सत्यं सत्येन समयीकृत: ॥ ॥२-१०९-१६॥
so 'haṃ piturniyogantu kimarthaṃ nānupālaye । satyapratiśravaḥ satyaṃ satyena samayīkṛtaḥ ॥ ॥2-109-16॥
Translation
Why, then, should I not fulfill the command of my father? I am a man of true promise, and that promise is bound by Truth itself.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह 'मैं' (जिसने सत्य की प्रतिज्ञा की है), अपने पिता की आज्ञा का पालन क्यों न करूँ? मैंने सत्य की प्रतिज्ञा की है, और वह प्रतिज्ञा सत्य के द्वारा ही शपथ/मर्यादा में बंधी है।
English Commentary
Having established the supremacy of Truth, Rama applies it to his immediate situation. He asks rhetorically, "Why should I not fulfill my father's command?" implying that disobedience is impossible for one who understands Dharma. Rama defines himself as satyapratishravah—one whose promise is true. The phrase satyena samayikritah suggests that his pledge is ratified or sealed by Truth itself. It is a binding covenant. Rama is telling Jabali that his identity is inextricably linked to his word. To break the promise made to his father would be to dissolve his own integrity and violate the very principle that sustains the universe.

पूर्व के तर्कों के आधार पर राम अब अपना निर्णय सुनाते हैं। वे कहते हैं, "सोऽहं" (वह मैं)—अर्थात् मैं जो सत्य की महिमा जानता हूँ, मैं पिता के आदेश की अवहेलना कैसे कर सकता हूँ? राम स्वयं को 'सत्यप्रतिश्रव' (सत्य की प्रतिज्ञा करने वाला) कहते हैं। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उनका वनवास स्वीकार करना कोई राजनीतिक भूल नहीं, बल्कि 'सत्येन समयीकृत:' (सत्य द्वारा बांधी गई मर्यादा) है। पिता दशरथ ने वचन दिया था और राम ने उसे स्वीकार किया था। अब उस वचन से पलटना सत्य की हत्या करने समान होगा। राम के लिए पिता का आदेश केवल एक पारिवारिक निर्देश नहीं, बल्कि एक 'सत्य-पाश' है जिससे वे मुक्त नहीं हो सकते।
