प्रत्यगात्ममिमं धर्मं सत्यं पश्याम्यहं स्वयम् ।
भार: सत्पुरुषाचीर्णस्तदर्थमभिमन्यते ॥ ॥२-१०९-१९॥
pratyagātmamimaṃ dharmaṃ satyaṃ paśyāmyahaṃ svayam । bhāraḥ satpuruṣācīrṇastadarthamabhimanyate ॥ ॥2-109-19॥
Translation
I see this Dharma of Truth as residing within my own self (conscience/soul). It is a burden (duty) borne by righteous men, and I have accepted it for that very purpose.

मैं स्वयं इस 'सत्य रूपी धर्म' को अपनी अंतरात्मा में स्थित देखता हूँ। सत्पुरुषों द्वारा आचरित इस भार (धर्म/व्रत) को मैंने उसी (सत्य की रक्षा) के लिए स्वीकार किया है।
English Commentary
Rama shifts the locus of Dharma from external scriptures to internal realization. He perceives Truth as pratyagatmam—inherent to the inner self. This suggests that acting against truth would be an act of self-betrayal or spiritual suicide. He acknowledges that the path of Truth is a "burden" (bhara), implying it is difficult and demanding, yet it is the path trodden by the righteous (satpurusha). By accepting this burden, Rama aligns himself with the lineage of noble souls who prioritize duty over comfort. He validates his actions not just by his father’s command, but by the approval of his own awakened conscience.

यहाँ राम धर्म को बाह्य विधि-निषेध से हटाकर अंतरात्मा का विषय बताते हैं। 'प्रत्यगात्मम्' का अर्थ है जो आत्मा के भीतर रमा हो। राम को किसी बाहरी प्रमाण की आवश्यकता नहीं है; उनका अंतःकरण गवाही देता है कि सत्य ही धर्म है। वे वनवास को एक 'भार' (उत्तरदायित्व) मानते हैं, जिसे उनसे पहले अनेक सत्पुरुषों ने उठाया है। महान लोग कठिन कर्तव्यों का पालन इसलिए करते हैं क्योंकि वे सत्य के प्रति समर्पित होते हैं। राम कहते हैं कि उन्होंने इस भार को 'अभिमन्यते' (गर्व और निष्ठा के साथ स्वीकार किया है), किसी मजबूरी में नहीं। यह उनकी आत्म-जागृति और स्व-धर्म का परिचायक है।
