निन्दाम्यहं कर्म पितु: कृतं तद्यस्त्वामगृह्णाद्विषमस्थबुद्धिम् ।
बुद्ध्यानयैवंविधया चरन्तं सुनास्तिकं धर्मपथादपेतम् ॥ ॥२-१०९-३३॥
nindāmyahaṃ karma pituḥ kṛtaṃ tadyastvāmagṛhṇādviṣamasthabuddhim । buddhyānayaivaṃvidhayā carantaṃ sunāstikaṃ dharmapathādapetam ॥ ॥2-109-33॥
Translation
I censure that act of my father by which he accepted you, a man of divergent intelligence. You move about with such an intellect, a complete atheist, deviated from the path of Dharma.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अपने पिता के उस कर्म की निंदा करता हूँ कि उन्होंने आप जैसे विषम बुद्धि (अस्थिर/कुटिल मति) वाले व्यक्ति को (पुरोहित/मंत्री के रूप में) स्वीकार किया। आप इस प्रकार की (नास्तिक) बुद्धि से चलते हैं, आप पक्के नास्तिक हैं और धर्म के मार्ग से भटके हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Rama delivers a scathing rebuke, expressing regret over his father's decision to appoint Jabali as a counselor. He characterizes Jabali as visamasthabuddhim (one with a crooked or divergent intellect) and sunastikam (a thorough atheist). This is a rare moment where Rama criticizes an action of his father, but specifically regarding the choice of bad company. Rama views Jabali’s intellectual perambulations not as wisdom, but as a deviation (apetam) from the path of Dharma. This verse underscores the danger of having advisors who, despite their learning, lack moral grounding.

यह रामायण के सबसे कठोर श्लोकों में से एक है। राम जाबालि पर सीधा प्रहार करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि जाबालि 'विषमस्थबुद्धिम्' हैं—अर्थात् जिनकी बुद्धि सीधी नहीं, कुटिल है। राम यहाँ तक कहते हैं कि दशरथ द्वारा जाबालि को सम्मानित करना एक भूल थी। 'सुनास्तिकं' (पक्के नास्तिक) कहकर राम जाबालि के विचारों को पूरी तरह खारिज करते हैं। एक राजा के दरबार में नास्तिक का होना राज्य के लिए घातक माना जाता था क्योंकि वह प्रजा को धर्मभ्रष्ट कर सकता है। राम का क्रोध इसलिए है क्योंकि जाबालि ब्राह्मण होकर भी वेद-विरोधी बात कर रहे हैं।
