अधर्मं धर्मवेषेण यदीमं लोकसङ्करम् ।
अभिपत्स्ये शुभं हित्वा क्रियाविधिविवर्जितम् ॥ ॥२-१०९-६॥
Adharmaṃ dharmaveṣeṇa yadīmaṃ lokasaṅkaram । Abhipatsye śubhaṃ hitvā kriyāvidhivivarjitam ॥ ॥2-109-6॥
Translation
If I were to abandon the auspicious path and adopt this adharma disguised as dharma—which ignores scriptural injunctions and creates confusion in society—(what would be my state?).

यदि मैं शुभ को त्यागकर, शास्त्र-विधि से रहित, धर्म के वेश में इस 'अधर्म' और 'लोकसंकर' (मर्यादाओं के मिश्रण/विनाश) को स्वीकार कर लूँ (तो क्या होगा?)।
English Commentary
Rama identifies the sophisticated danger in Jabali's argument: it is adharma dressed in the costume of dharma. While taking the throne is a valid duty, doing so by breaking a vow is a violation of the higher Dharma of Truth. Rama fears causing lokasankara—social chaos and moral confusion. If the leader abandons scriptural injunctions (kriyāvidhi) and ethical standards to seize power, he sets a precedent that destabilizes the entire social order. Rama recognizes that true auspiciousness (shubham) is lost when one adopts the expedient path over the righteous one.

श्रीराम यहाँ जाबालि के तर्क को 'धर्मवेषेण अधर्मम्' (धर्म के वेश में अधर्म) कहते हैं। राज्य ग्रहण करना ऊपर से 'क्षत्रिय धर्म' लग सकता है, लेकिन चूँकि यह सत्य की हत्या करके प्राप्त होगा, इसलिए यह वास्तव में अधर्म है। 'लोकसंकर' का अर्थ है समाज में मूल्यों का मिश्रण या confusion पैदा करना। यदि राजा स्वयं नियमों (क्रिया-विधि) को ताक पर रख देगा, तो समाज में अराजकता फैल जाएगी। श्रीराम यह स्पष्ट करते हैं कि शुभ (कल्याण) सत्य में है, न कि उस पद में जो छल या वचनभंग से प्राप्त किया गया हो।
