सा तदर्थमना देवी तमभिप्रायमागतम् ।
निर्माध्यस्थ्याच्च हर्षाच्च बभाषे दुर्वचं वचः ॥ ॥२-११-११॥
sā tadarthamanā devī tamabhiprāyamāgatam । nirmādhyasthyaācca harṣācca babhāṣe durvacaṃ vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-11-11॥
Translation
That queen, intent on her purpose, seeing him arrived at her desired intention [caught in her trap], spoke cruel words out of lack of fairness and [perverse] joy.

अपने स्वार्थ में लीन उस देवी (कैकेयी) ने राजा को अपने अभिप्राय (जाल) में आया हुआ देखकर, विवेकहीनता और हर्ष के कारण कठोर वचन कहे।
English Commentary
The narrator describes Kaikeyi’s reaction. She is "tadarthamanā" (single-mindedly focused on her goal). Seeing Dasharatha legally and morally bound by his oaths, she feels "harsha" (joy/delight) rather than empathy for her husband's distress. The text notes she speaks from nirmādhyasthya—a lack of mediation, balance, or fairness. She has abandoned the role of a just queen or loving wife. Her subsequent words are described as durvacam (hard to speak/cruel), marking the transition from silence to the articulation of her catastrophic demand.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि कैकेयी की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण करते हैं। 'तदर्थमना' का अर्थ है जिसका मन केवल अपने लक्ष्य (भरत का अभिषेक) पर टिका हो। राजा को अपनी शपथों में बंधता देख उसे 'हर्ष' हुआ, न कि राजा के दुख पर दया आई। 'निर्माध्यस्थ्यात्' एक महत्वपूर्ण शब्द है, जिसका अर्थ है मध्यस्थता या निष्पक्षता का अभाव—यानी उसने धर्म और अधर्म का विवेक खो दिया था। अब वह जो बोलने जा रही है, उसे 'दुर्वचं' (कठोर/न कहने योग्य) कहा गया है।
