यथा क्रमेण शपसि वरं मम ददासि च ।
तच्छृण्वन्तु त्रयस्त्रींशद्देवाः साग्निपुरोगमाः ॥ ॥२-११-१३॥
yathā krameṇa śapasi varaṃ mama dadāsi ca । tacchṛṇvantu trayastrīṃśaddevāḥ sāgnipurogamāḥ ॥ ॥2-11-13॥
Translation
(Kaikeyi said) As you swear repeatedly and grant me the boon, let the thirty-three gods, led by Agni, listen to this.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(कैकेयी ने कहा) जिस प्रकार तुम बार-बार शपथ ले रहे हो और मुझे वर दे रहे हो, उसे अग्नि को आदि लेकर तैंतीस देवता सुनें (साक्षी रहें)।
English Commentary
Before voicing her demands, Kaikeyi invokes witnesses to make the contract binding on a cosmic scale. She calls upon the "thirty-three gods" (the primary pantheon in Vedic tradition: 12 Adityas, 11 Rudras, 8 Vasus, and the 2 Ashvins) led by Agni (Fire). Agni is the primary witness (sakshi) in all Vedic rituals and oaths. By invoking them, she traps Dasharatha not just legally, but theologically. She wants to ensure that if he breaks this promise, he incurs the wrath of the entire celestial hierarchy.
