Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सत्य्सन्धो महातेजाधर्मज्ञः सुसमाहितः ।
वरं मम ददात्येष तन्मे शृण्वन्तु देवताअः ॥ ॥२-११-१६॥
satyasandho mahātejā dharmajñaḥ susamāhitaḥ । varaṃ mama dadātyeṣa tanme śṛṇvantu devatāḥ ॥ ॥2-11-16॥
Translation
This King, true to his promise, of great brilliance, knower of Dharma, and fully composed, is granting me a boon. Let the gods listen to this from me.

यह सत्यप्रतिज्ञ, महातेजस्वी, धर्म के ज्ञाता और एकाग्रचित्त राजा मुझे वर दे रहे हैं। देवतागण मेरी इस बात को सुनें।
English Commentary
This is a masterstroke of manipulation. Kaikeyi describes Dasharatha using glowing epithets: Satyasandha (bound to truth) and Dharmajña (knower of righteousness). However, she uses these titles to box him in. By declaring publicly (to the gods) that he possesses these virtues, she implies that breaking the promise would strip him of his identity as a righteous king. She explicitly notes he is susamāhita (composed/intent), preventing him from later claiming he was delirious or not in his right mind when granting the boon.

यह कैकेयी का अंतिम और सबसे चतुर प्रहार है। वह राजा की प्रशंसा करती है—'सत्यसंध' (सत्य प्रतिज्ञा वाले) और 'धर्मज्ञ' (धर्म को जानने वाले)—लेकिन यह प्रशंसा वास्तव में एक जाल है। यदि राजा वर देने से मुकरते हैं, तो वे सत्यसंध और धर्मज्ञ नहीं रहेंगे। वह देवताओं को सुनाते हुए कहती है कि राजा 'सुसमाहित' (होश-हवास में/एकाग्रचित्त) हैं, ताकि बाद में कोई यह न कह सके कि राजा ने मदहोशी या भावुकता में वर दिया था। उसने राजा के चरित्र को ही उनके खिलाफ हथियार बना लिया है।
