स्मर राज्न् पुरा वृत्तं तस्मिन् दैवासुरे रणे ।
तत्र चाच्यावयच्छत्रुस्तव जीवतमन्तरा ॥ ॥२-११-१८॥
smara rājan purā vṛttaṃ tasmin daivāsure raṇe । tatra cācyāvayacchatrustava jīvitamantarā ॥ ॥2-11-18॥
Translation
Remember, O King, the event that occurred long ago in the war between the Devas and Asuras. In that battle, the enemy had nearly taken your life away.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजन्! प्राचीन काल में देवासुर संग्राम में जो घटना घटी थी, उसे स्मरण करो। उस युद्ध में शत्रु ने (शम्बर ने) तुम्हारे प्राण संकट में डाल दिए थे।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi builds the legal and moral basis for her demand by invoking the "Devasura Rane" (the war between gods and demons). She employs the strategy of recalling a past debt ("smara" - remember). By reminding him that his life ("jivitam") was nearly lost until she intervened, she establishes that Dasharatha owes his very existence to her. This validates her right to demand anything she wants, framing her upcoming request not as a favor, but as a repayment of a life-debt.

कैकेयी अब अपनी मांग की नींव रख रही है। वह सीधे वर नहीं मांगती, बल्कि पहले राजा पर अपने एहसान की याद दिलाती है। वह 'देवासुर रणे' (देवताओं और असुरों के युद्ध) का प्रसंग छेड़ती है, जहाँ दशरथ ने देवताओं की सहायता की थी। वह याद दिलाती है कि कैसे शत्रु ने राजा के जीवन को संकट में डाल दिया था। यह मनोवैज्ञानिक दबाव है—वह राजा को यह महसूस कराना चाहती है कि उनका वर्तमान जीवन उसी की देन है, इसलिए वे उसके ऋणी हैं।
