Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तौ तु दत्तौ वरौ देव निक्षेपौ मृगयाम्यहम् ।
तथैव पृथिवीपाल सकाशे सत्यसंगर ॥ ॥२-११-२०॥
tau tu dattau varau deva nikṣepau mṛgayāmyaham । tathaiva pṛthivīpāla sakāśe satyasaṅgara ॥ ॥2-11-20॥
Translation
O Protector of the Earth! O True-to-promise one! I now seek those two boons given by you, which were kept as a deposit (trust) with you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पृथ्वीपाल! हे सत्यप्रतिज्ञ! वे जो दो वर आपने दिए थे, उन्हें मैंने धरोहर (निक्षेप) के रूप में रखा था; अब मैं उन्हें आपसे मांगती हूँ।
English Commentary
The legalistic terminology here is striking. Kaikeyi refers to the boons as "nikshepau" (deposits or things held in trust). In ancient ethics, refusing to return a deposit when requested is a grave sin, equivalent to theft. By framing the boons this way, she strips Dasharatha of the choice to refuse. She addresses him as "Prithivipala" (Protector of Earth) and "Satyasangara" (True to Vows), challenging him to live up to his titles by returning what belongs to her.
