प्रतिज्ञां प्रतिजानीष्व यदि त्वं कर्तु मिच्छसि ।
अथ तद्व्याहरिष्यामि यदभिप्रार्थितं मया ॥ ॥२-११-३॥
Pratijñāṃ pratijānīṣva yadi tvaṃ kartumicchasi । Atha tadvyāhariṣyāmi yadabhiprārthitaṃ mayā ॥ ॥2-11-3॥
Translation
"If you wish to do it, then make a solemn promise. Only then will I express what is desired by me."

यदि आप उसे (पूरा) करना चाहते हैं, तो पहले प्रतिज्ञा करो। उसके बाद ही मैं वह बात कहूंगी जो मेरे द्वारा प्रार्थना की गई है।
English Commentary
This is the trap snapping shut. Kaikeyi demands a pratijñā (solemn vow) before revealing the content of her request. She requires a "blind" commitment. Knowing Dasharatha's adherence to truth and his lineage's reputation for keeping promises, she secures the binding contract first. This ensures that once the horrific nature of her request is revealed, he will be morally and spiritually bound to execute it, unable to back out without losing his honor.

यह कैकेयी की 'चेकमेट' चाल है। वह अपनी मांग बताने से पहले 'प्रतिज्ञा' (Vow) मांगती है। वह जानती है कि दशरथ रघुकुल की मर्यादा के पक्के हैं—"प्राण जाए पर वचन न जाए"। इसलिए वह मांग को गुप्त रखते हुए पहले हस्ताक्षर करवाना चाहती है (Blind Agreement)। यह एक कुशल रणनीतिकार की भाषा है। दशरथ ने पहले ही शपथ ले ली थी, लेकिन कैकेयी अब एक औपचारिक पुष्टि (Formal Confirmation) चाहती है ताकि राजा के मुकरने का कोई रास्ता न बचे।
