Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एषो ऽपि हि महाभाग: पितुर्वचसि तिष्ठति ।
अत एव न शक्ता: स्मो व्यावर्त्तयितुमञ्जसा ॥ ॥२-१११-२१॥
Eṣo 'pi hi mahābhāgaḥ piturvacasi tiṣṭhati । Ata eva na śaktāḥ smo vyāvarttayitumañjasā ॥ ॥2-111-21॥
Translation
"For this highly fortunate one (Rama) stands firm on his father's word. Therefore, we are not able to turn him back easily/suddenly."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"ये महाभाग (राम) पिता के वचन पर दृढ़ स्थित हैं। इसीलिए हम इन्हें सहसा लौटाने (वनवास से विमुख करने) में समर्थ नहीं हैं।"
English Commentary
The citizens conclude their intervention by explicitly stating the reason for their inability to support Bharata’s protest. Rama is anchored in piturvacasi (the word/command of the father). Because his stance is founded on such an unshakeable moral bedrock, the people admit, "We are not capable" (na śaktāḥ smaḥ) of diverting him. To pressure him to return would be to ask him to sin against his father. The use of añjasā (easily/straightaway) suggests that while they wish he would return, they recognize the immense spiritual weight of his vow. They essentially tell Bharata that the moral high ground belongs to Rama, and therefore, the collective will cannot override the individual's commitment to Truth.

प्रजाजन अपनी विवशता और राम के प्रति सम्मान व्यक्त करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि राम 'पितुर्वचसि तिष्ठति' (पिता के वचन पर स्थित हैं), जो कि धर्म का मूल है। चूँकि राम का आधार सत्य है, इसलिए कोई भी शक्ति—चाहे वह भरत का प्रेम हो या प्रजा का विलाप—उन्हें डिगा नहीं सकती। 'न शक्ता: स्मो' (हम समर्थ नहीं हैं) का अर्थ है कि नैतिक रूप से हम उन्हें लौटने के लिए बाध्य नहीं कर सकते। 'अञ्जसा' (सहसा/आसानी से) शब्द सूचित करता है कि राम के दृढ़ निश्चय को बदलना असंभव है। इस प्रकार, प्रजा ने भरत को समझा दिया कि अब राम की आज्ञा मानकर लौटना ही श्रेयस्कर है, क्योंकि राम को सत्यपथ से हटाना अधर्म होगा।
