न याचे पितरं राज्यं नानुशासामि मातरम् ।
आर्यं परमधर्मज्ञं नानुजानामि राघवम् ॥ ॥२-१११-२५॥
Na yāce pitaraṃ rājyaṃ nānuśāsāmi mātaram । Āryaṃ paramadharmajñaṃ nānujānāmi rāghavam ॥ ॥2-111-25॥
Translation
"I did not ask the father for the kingdom, nor did I instruct my mother (to do so). And I do not approve/permit the supreme knower of Dharma, Arya Raghava, (to go to the forest)."

"मैंने पिता से राज्य नहीं माँगा था, न ही मैंने माता (कैकेयी) को (ऐसा करने का) उपदेश दिया था। और मैं परम धर्मज्ञ आर्य राघव (राम) के (वन जाने का) अनुमोदन नहीं करता हूँ।"
English Commentary
This is Bharata’s formal exoneration. He categorically denies any complicity in the conspiracy. He states he did not solicit the crown (na yāce) nor did he advise his mother (na anuśāsāmi). Crucially, he declares na anujānāmi regarding Rama. While traditionally translated as "I do not permit," in this context, it effectively means "I do not accept/condone this outcome." He is asserting his dissent against the exile. By proclaiming this before the state assembly, Bharata is washing his hands of the sin of banishing the rightful heir. He acknowledges Rama as Paramadharmajña (supreme knower of Dharma), signaling that while Rama follows Dharma, Bharata views the situation itself as unjust.

यह भरत का 'श्वेतपत्र' (White Paper) है। वे तीन प्रमुख आरोपों का खंडन करते हैं। 1. राज्य की याचना: उन्होंने कभी पिता से राज्य नहीं माँगा। 2. षड्यंत्र: उन्होंने माता कैकेयी को नहीं उकसाया ('नानुशासामि मातरम्')। 3. वनवास की सहमति: वे राम के वनवास को स्वीकार नहीं करते ('नानुजानामि')। यहाँ 'नानुजानामि' का अर्थ गहरा है; इसका अर्थ 'अनुमति न देना' भी है और 'समर्थन न करना' भी। भरत स्पष्ट करते हैं कि राम का वनवास उनकी इच्छा के विरुद्ध हो रहा है, अतः वे इसके भागीदार नहीं हैं। वे स्वयं को इस पाप से पूरी तरह अलग (dissociate) कर रहे हैं ताकि भविष्य में कोई उन पर लांछन न लगा सके।
