तव पादुकयोर्न्यस्तराज्यतन्त्र: परन्तप ।
चतुर्दशे हि सम्पूर्णे वर्षे ऽहनि रघूत्तम ।
न द्रक्ष्यामि यदि त्वां तु प्रवेक्ष्यामि हुताशनम् ॥ ॥२-११२-२५॥
Tava pādukayornyastarājyatantraḥ parantapa । Caturdaśe hi sampūrṇe varṣe 'hani raghūttama । Na drakṣyāmi yadi tvāṃ tu pravekṣyāmi hutāśanam ॥ ॥2-112-25॥
Translation
O Scorcher of Foes! Having entrusted the administration of the kingdom to your sandals, O best of Raghus, if I do not see you on the day the fourteenth year is completed, I shall enter the fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे परंतप! हे रघूत्तम! राज्य का सारा शासन-तंत्र आपकी पादुकाओं पर न्यस्त (समर्पित) करके, चौदह वर्ष पूर्ण होने पर (अगले ही) दिन यदि मैंने आपको नहीं देखा, तो मैं अग्नि में प्रवेश कर जाऊँगा।
English Commentary
This is the critical ultimatum that drives the urgency of the entire Ramayana epic from this point forward. Bharata accepts the regency only on a terrifying condition. He places the burden of governance on the sandals (nyastarājyatantraḥ), but places the burden of his life on Rama's punctuality. He vows to commit suicide by entering fire (pravekṣyāmi hutāśanam) if Rama does not appear on the very day the fourteen years are completed. This raises the stakes immensely. Rama cannot simply wander indefinitely; he is now racing against a clock. This vow ensures that Rama’s exile has a definite, non-negotiable end date, binding the brothers in a pact of life and death.

यह भरत का 'अंतिम अल्टीमेटम' है। वे राम को केवल पादुकाएं देकर मुक्त नहीं कर रहे, बल्कि उन्हें समय से लौटने के लिए बाध्य (bind) कर रहे हैं। भरत कहते हैं कि चौदह वर्ष पूरे होने पर, यदि राम नहीं दिखे, तो 'प्रवेक्ष्यामि हुताशनम्' (मैं अग्नि में प्रवेश कर जाऊँगा/आत्मदाह कर लूँगा)। यह शर्त राम पर एक भारी जिम्मेदारी डालती है—उन्हें न केवल वनवास पूरा करना है, बल्कि जीवित रहना है और ठीक समय पर लौटना है। यदि राम एक दिन भी देर करते हैं, तो वे भरत को खो देंगे। यह भरत का प्रेम भी है और हठ भी। राम इस शर्त को मौन स्वीकृति देते हैं ("तथेति"—जैसा कि अगले श्लोकों में आता है)। यहाँ भ्रातृ-प्रेम की तीव्रता अपने चरम पर है।
